What’s the Neighborhood Like?

Highland Park is an interesting mix of beautifully kept older homes, inviting gardens and green spaces, retail businesses and light industrial establishments. Many of the older homes were built during the population boom following World War II and have been lovingly maintained by residents since that time.

Houses in Highland Park are primarily of the upper middle class style, including many historic structures. Other real estate options include apartments and houses for rent, as well as townhomes and condos for lease that feature a variety of amenities.

The homes you would expect to find for sale in the Highland Park neighborhood are generally going to range between 1600 and 2200 square feet. Most of the homes were built between 1930 and 1960, with one- and two-story homes being most common. Many homes have had updates, and it’s not uncommon to find extensive finished basements, adding to the square footage of some of these great homes. The typical home in the neighborhood will have 3 bedrooms and 1 or 2 baths, while the larger updated homes may have 4 bedrooms with an additional bath. What’s Going On in the Highland Park area?

Highland Park is located in the southwest corner of St. Paul, bordered to the west and south by the Mississippi River. The river itself is edged by parks and green space, including Hidden Falls Park and Crosby Farm Park, which are big draws for walkers, joggers, and explorers of all ages.

The neighborhood is home to a rare jewel, the Cirus Juventas, a performing arts circus school where students learn tricks of the trade. Restaurants and unique little boutiques add to the charm of the neighborhood as well as providing a variety of jobs well suited to many of the residents.

The neighborhood also contains the aptly-named Highland Park, which was established in 1925 and now contains a disc golf course, 9- and 18-hole golf courses, an aquatic center, picnic areas, and more.

There is a real sense of community in Highland Park, which culminates annually in the Highland Fest is the neighborhoods event with musical acts, carnival rides a artisans street fair and fireworks display.  Residents of this neighborhood experience both the small town charm and big city conveniences of this area, along with comfortable homes, employment opportunities and unique shopping opportunities.

What Schools Will the Kids Attend?

The Highland Park neighborhood is a part of the St. Paul Public School District #625. The aptly named Highland Park Elementary, Middle School, and High School are centrally-located and bring kids from kindergarten through 12th grade. Additional opportunities include EXPO Elementary, Adams Spanish Immersion School, and Horace Mann School (all K-5).
