What’s the Neighborhood Like?
The homes you would expect to find for sale in the Como Park neighborhood are usually sized between 1200 and 2000 square feet. Most of the homes were built prior to 1950, with one-and-a-half story homes being most common. However, many homes have had updates, and it’s common to find finished basements, adding to the square footage of some of these great homes. The typical home in the neighborhood will have 2 or 3 bedrooms and 1 bath, while the larger updated homes may have 4 bedrooms with a second bath. The lake itself is bordered by an asphalt multi-purpose trail, approximately 1.5 miles around, and these trails connect to a network leading onto the Zoo and Conservatory property. The Zoo and Conservatory are open year-round, and the grounds contain recreation for all seasons. Here, one can find swimming in the summer and skiing and skating in the winter.
On the western bank of Lake Como sits the Como Park Pavilion. To the north is the Como Park Golf Course, a public 18-hole course with clubhouse and full food and beverage service.
The nearest major hospital is less than 3 miles from the neighborhood, and grocery shopping can be found less than 2 miles away. Public bus service is available, with routes and stops on the major streets in the neighborhood. Additionally, there are two Nice Ride shared bicycle stations located at Lake Como and the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.
What Schools Will the Kids Attend?
The Como Park neighborhood is a part of the St. Paul Public School District #625. There are a variety of elementary schools serving the immediate local area, including Como Park Elementary, Chelsea Heights Elementary, Wellstone Elementary, Crossroads Montessori, and Crossroads Science. For children older than grade 5, local schools include Washington Tech (6-12), and Como Park Senior High School (9-12).
