What’s the City Like?

The typical Roseville home begins at 1500 square feet, with some models exceeding 3000 square feet. Most of the homes were built after 1950, and they appear in a wide variety of styles, from single-level rambler to large multi-story homes. Most of the lots are considered standard city lots, but they tend to be larger than the lots one might find in Minneapolis or St. Paul – between 1/3 and 1/2 acre. Many homes have outdoor gathering spaces, in the form of patios or decks, located to the rear of the home.

Despite being a draw for commuters, Roseville has a rich commercial history all its own. It’s the home of the first Target store, opened in 1962 (and rebuilt in 2005 into the new Super Target model). The first McDonald’s and Dairy Queen stores in Minnesota opened in Roseville, as well as the very first Barnes & Noble outside of New York City. Roseville continues provide several retail shopping outlets, including Rosedale Center and Har Mar Mall, and employment opportunity in the region is strong.

What’s Going On in Roseville?

Roseville is home to more than two dozen parks and green spaces. Some are developed, providing ball fields and playgrounds, while others offer less-manicured space with lakes, marshes, and an educational nature center. Miles of paved trails can be found within these parks, and many separate parks are connected by bike and pedestrian pathways. Two golf courses are within the city: a public 9-hole course and a private 18-hole course.

Additionally, Roseville houses the Roseville Skating Center, which includes an outdoor winter rink and a year-round indoor ice arena. This arena holds the largest refrigerated sheet of ice in North America and provides space for competition, lessons, and recreation.

Roseville has numerous medical clinics, including urgent care providers, and the nearest major hospital is approximately 8 miles away. Public bus service is available, with routes and stops on the major thoroughfares in and around the city.

What Schools Will the Kids Attend?

Roseville lies within two local school districts: the Roseville Area School District #623 and the Mounds View School District #621. These two districts provide dozens of options for K-12 education. The city also hosts several private schools, including Northern Voices, a center for young children with hearing loss.
