What’s the City Like?
The typical New Brighton home is greater than 1400 square feet, with many models having been updated to include finished basements, increasing their square footage beyond 3000 square feet. Most of the homes were built between 1950 and 1980, with a wide variety of styles being represented, from single story to four-or-more level splits. Most of the lots are generously-sized city lots, between 1/4 and 1/2 acre in size.
What’s Going On in New Brighton?
New Brighton has a total of 16 parks and open spaces, which include such amenities as picnic shelters, swimming beaches, sports fields, and more. There is one disc golf course, located at Hansen Park, and a 9-hole public golf course, Brightwood Hills.
The New Brighton Community Center provides year-round recreational and educational opportunities. In addition to providing office space to local and county offices, the community center contains a gym, an aquatics center, a library, and an expansive indoor playground called the Eagles Nest.
Each August, New Brighton is host to Stockyard Days. This festival provides many activities for attendees of all ages. Among the festivities are a softball tournament, medallion hunt, golf tournament, parade, dances, and much more. The festival runs more than a week in length and ends with the coronation of local ambassadors.
New Brighton is roughly 6 miles from the nearest major hospital, with many medical clinics located near the city limits. Public bus service is available, with routes and stops on two of the major thoroughfares in the city.
What Schools Will the Kids Attend?
New Brighton is served by the St. Anthony – New Brighton School District #282 and Moundsview Area School District #621. There are four public schools within the city limits: Bel Air Elementary (K-5), Sunnyside Elementary (K-5), Highview Middle School (6-8), and Irondale High School (9-12), with many other options for K-12 education found throughout the school district.
