What’s the City Like?
The typical Arden Hills home is between 1500 to 2200 square feet, with some models exceeding 4000 square feet. Most homes have a minimum of 2-3 bedrooms and 2 baths, and few were built prior to 1950. The majority of homes here were built in the 1970s and 1980s. A wide variety of homes are represented, from single story to four-level-split homes, and townhomes feature strongly in this region. Lots in Arden Hills are generously-sized, beginning at around 1/3 acre.
Though it’s a popular home base for commuters, Arden Hills provides many employment opportunities and is home to the Land O’ Lakes corporate headquarters. Additionally, Boston Scientific employs 2000 individuals in its Arden Hills location, and two private colleges have their campuses in Arden Hills.
What’s Going On in Arden Hills?
Arden Hills is home to 14 parks and trails facilities. These parks feature amenities that range from baseball fields and basketball courts to paths and natural areas. Four of these parks have ice skating rinks during winter months, and warming houses are available depending on schedule. The city also provides plots for lease within a community garden within Arden Hills.
Approximately 1/3 of the land of Arden Hills was once a part of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant, which served the government during WWII. Though decommissioned decades ago, this land has gone unused, due primarily to existing localized contamination from the manufacture of munitions. As of October 2013, this land has been purchased by development agencies and the cleanup processes are well underway. It is expected that much of this property will be developed into residential housing in the near future.
Arden Hills contains and is very near to many medical clinics, including urgent care facilities, and is roughly 8 miles from the nearest major hospital. Public bus service is available on Lexington Avenue, which borders Arden Hills.
What Schools Will the Kids Attend?
Arden Hills is served by the Roseville Area School District #623 and the Mounds View School District #621. Within the city limits are Valentine Hills Elementary (1-5) and Mounds View High School (9-12). Dozens of other options for K-12 schooling are available throughout the Roseville and Mounds View school districts.
